EVENTS FOR JANUARY 2016

Every year I get to put on these quirky events I thank my lucky stars. But most of all I thank all the lovely people I've had the extraordinary honour and pleasure to meet at all the events.

When I started doing these events, I basically wanted to create the kinds of events that I would personally want to go to myself. Events that took into account my very particular predilictions.

I have a hard time going out in the world. And I have a hard time with events where everyone arrives and just watches something, without the opportunity to participate in them.

It's very hard to feel like a participant in the world. Things happen and you feel like you can't do anything to change them. And sometimes the world is so massive, and so much of what trickles down to us is in the news, and in places far off. Sometimes the only life we can affect is our own life. And the lives of those immediately around us. And I have to believe that that's enough, most days. Sometimes that's all I have energy for.

But I want to thank each and every person who has come to any of my events this year and in the years past. You changed my life profoundly. And I hope these weird and quirky events have managed, in some small way, to change your life. Happy 2015, and 2016 and onwards. Thank you for everything you've done for me.

Black heart (cards)Black heart (cards)Black heart (cards) You are cordially invited to Toronto's QUEER SLOWDANCE! - Winter Warmth 2016 Edition! Black heart (cards)Black heart (cards)Black heart (cards)

With a lending library of designated dancers for all you wallflowers, and a dancecard-booklet to set up dances in advance (should you choose to), Toronto Queer Slowdance has all slow songs, all night long! (Except for the occasional intermission when we play the fastest songs we can find!)

It's high school with a happy ending. Come and experience why slow is beautiful, and why love is not ironic.

Fabulous and inspired attire, while desired, is not required. But it would be AWESOME and HAWT. As this is our Winter Wamth edition, if it pleases you, wear something RED!

Finally, you do not have to be queer to attend thi
s party, but you must have an open mind, an open heart, and have open arms. Do keep in mind that many of our attendees fall within the LGBTTIQ continuum and may or may not be interested in dancing with the 'opposite' sex, so if you are stridently & adamantly straight, this may not be the most receptive community for you.

DECEMBER 2015 QUIRKY EVENTS!

Hi Lovelies! So, there's this old Chinese saying. It's more of a curse, really: "May you live in interesting times." Well, I read the news every single day. I'm kind of a news junkie. Anyway, sometimes I think the world could stand to be a little less interesting. I wouldn't mind some wide open days of napping if you know what I mean. But after that, I like to do things. And I hope you do too - So without further rambling, here are some charming and quirky things to do in December!

★★★ MONTREAL STRIP SPELLING BEE - PUNK Edition! ★★★

Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015 at the MAINLINE THEATRE

RSVP here:

MONTREAL STRIP SPELLING BEE - PUNK Edition!

WARNING: There may be nudity in this show.

The game is played a lot like strip poker, but it's a spelling bee, and it's played in front of a live audience of hooters, hollerers and hecklers who want to see some smart and sexy skin!

As this is our PUNK edition, any contestant who incorporates a costume, whether half-assed or high-end, will be looked upon more favourably by the judges.

Additionally, we are taking contestant sign-ups in advance! But we are limiting early sign-ups to HALF of the allotted ten spellers so that folks who want to sign-up at the last minute have room to join in on the mad spelling fun. Email inconsolablecat@hotmail.com with XDRESSBEE in th
e subject line if you are interested in signing up early!
......

Thursday, Dec 3, 2015
Mainline Theatre
3997 Blvd. St-Laurent
(Just south of Duluth - look for the sign with flames painted on it!)

Contestant sign-up at 8:30 PM sharp!
Bee from 9 to midnight
$10 at the door
(Contestants do not pay cover and get a free drink!)

Please note that we must cap our number of strip-spellers at 10 to ensure an expedient and entertaining evening.

Regretfully, The Mainline is not wheelchair-accessible, as it is up a steep flight of 15 steps.

It's high school with a happy ending. Come and experience why slow is beautiful, and why love is not ironic.

This event is MIXED and for EVERYONE: queer, straight, bi, poly, non-gender-binaried, those who identify as Complicated and those who are Late-Onset Awesome.

PS. Fabulous and inspired attire, while desired, is not required. But it would be
AWESOME and HAWT and up your chances of being asked to dance! Since this is our NIGHT IN WHITE edition, we invite you to dust off your all-white outfits! A gentle reminder that while the personal IS political, we do not mean to suggest or imply any racial reading in the theme. For instance, last Slowdance was our Black Tie edition. These themes are purely for fun, so the dapper and fashion-conscious folks can have a loose guideline. If you are a former goth and don't have any white clothes, perhaps consider wearing something that glows. Wear a light!

This email list will become more and more important because every month, Facebook is REDUCING the number of invites I can personally send to folks on my friends list. They are reducing it every month because they are trying to turn a profit with their PAGES system, where they charge you so that your posts will show up in people's feeds. Already I have Facebook friends who aren't getting invites. I don't begrudge Facebook trying to turn a profit, but it's disappointing when they purposefully take away features and abilities to then try to charge you for them somewhere else.

Thanks to you for being part of this email list! It helps a lot!

QUIRKY EVENTS FOR NOVEMBER 2015!

Hi lovelies! This is kind of an exciting time for me! I am in the midst of launching my new book, YOU ARE A KITTEN! The final book in my trilogy of Choose-Your-Own-Adventure style books from the POV of a cat. But I am also continuing to put on my intimate & odd events. A couple weeks ago we had the best turnout ever for the Montreal Slowdance, which touched my heart. And in the picture above, this is what it looks like to work on the prototype for a slipcase, which I've never had to do before, and which is a charming challenge. My publisher tells me that a possible box set will be available late next year, so I'm trying to work through its logistical problems. I know it doesn't look like much right now. The fact is, things tend to look like shit for a long time until they don't. Just look at me in high school. Ba dum pssh!

Anyway, haha, without further ado, here are the...

 MONTREAL EXPOZINE

Saturday & Sunday, Nov. 14 & 15

MORE INFO here:
http://expozine.ca/en/

THIS IS NOT MY EVENT! This is an annual fair in Montreal that focusses on small-press prints and zines and is awesome and amazing and has been going on for more than ten years and I always have a little table where I sell my random things and sign books if people want and it's nice just to sit all day and talk to your neighbours and get samosas and beers from the kitchen. Anyway, I will be there. Will you?

CANCELLED STRIP SPELLING BEE IN TORONTO: So, in my "sneak peek" section (below) I usually put upcoming dates that I haven't made an event page for. Anyway, for a long time I had Nov. 6 marked for a Strip Spelling Bee in Toronto. Unfortunately there was some miscommunication between myself and the venue and I got lost in the shuffle! So if you marked that date in your calendar, sadly I must ask you to erase it. I seldom cancel events. It's not my style and it upsets me that I have to. I am taking steps to ensure this doesn't happen again in the future. Thanks for understanding!
